Seventy-two hours after Mayor Eric Adams announced his departure from the mayoral race, Jasmine Ray, who worked in the Mayor's Office until very recently, posted on social media that she was self-publishing "a Memoir of Love, Legacy, and New York City Politics," titled "Political Humanity." The book's seemingly AI-generated cover features a woman's manicured hands wrapped around the bald head of a man wearing a power suit.
Since she announced the release of "Political Humanity," Ray has been sending out salvo after salvo of salacious, seemingly AI-enhanced material: Text on the website for the book, on which you can pre-order the e-book for $7.99 and an audiobook for $9.99, has a distinct flavor of ChatGPT.
She also released a trailer for the book on Instagram, in which an AI avatar of Ray meets an AI avatar of a politician named Eric, who looks like Mayor Adams, soundtracked by an equally artificial barn-burning soul theme song. As the trailer progresses, Jasmine holds the mayor down in their relationship as he's investigated by the FBI.
So who is Jasmine Ray, and what is her relationship to Mayor Adams? We've asked Ray a list of questions through her publicist, and we'll update if they respond. But for now, here's what we know—and don't know.
