Over the weekend, Mayor Zohran Mamdani cross-posted an Instagram post made by the local politics influencer and progressive politics advocate Carla Marie Davis on his @zohrankmamdani account. (He still posts from there almost daily, despite also running @nycmayor). Posted three days after Mamdani's "Adams Budget Crisis" press conference, his opening gambit to get the governor to fund his Democratic Socialist campaign promises, Davis's video repeats Mamdani's claims about the City deserving more money from the state, focusing on Mamdani's policy priorities and shoveling blame for a "$12 billion hole" in the budget onto Mamdani's previous political rivals, Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo, whom she says "under-budgeted known expenses" and "mismanaged" and "raided" the City's finances.
She tells her 16 and a half thousand followers—and Mamdani's 11 and a half million—that it's time for the state to tax the rich, lifting up Mamdani's proposals to invest in transportation and deeply affordable housing.
"We are taking this fight to Albany and getting the city we deserve," Davis says.
"If there were ever a moment to lock in, it is now," Davis urges, as a Cardi B sample from "Money" plays. The video currently has almost 19,000 likes and over 1,600 comments.
