Two Big Manhattan Casino Bids Are Dead

Caesar's Palace in Times Square and Avenir at the Javits Center were just killed—congrats to Steve Cohen.

On Wednesday morning, the six-person Community Advisory Committee for the Caesar's Times Square casino bid championed by real estate giant SL Green and backed by Jay-Z's Roc Nation came together to vote on whether the proposal should move forward. Then, in less time than it takes to heat up chicken wings in an air fryer, the committee killed the bid, voting it down 4-2.

After the vote, SL Green's CEO, an absolutely livid Marc Holliday, told the committee members, all of whom were appointed by City and state officials, that what they had done was "despicable," according to video captured by Crain's Nick Garber. Holliday, who has been a staunch supporter of Mayor Eric Adams, had been slated to receive a $10 million bonus if he successfully built the casino.
