Frank Seddio Misspelled Names on Purpose to Obscure his Real Client in the Case of the Missing $2 Million, New Court Filings Claim

More details emerging in everybody's favorite legal drama, including potentially incriminating dentistry.

Brooklyn Democratic Party powerbroker Frank Seddio deliberately introduced errors and misspellings into a lawsuit he filed on behalf of alleged serial fraudster Sam Sprei in order to disguise Sprei's involvement in the suit, according to recent court filings. Seddio, the filings allege, is financially dependent on his client: Sprei was responsible for about 80 percent of Seddio's legal work, with Sprei's retainer of Seddio running $5,000 to $10,000 per week.

These are some of the more jaw-dropping revelations found in a proposed amended complaint filed in the Eastern District of New York last week. The lawsuit offers an increasingly detailed picture of the relationship between Sprei, who was indicted in May on a federal wire fraud charge, and a network of his alleged enablers—among them a state supreme court justice and a host of lawyers, including Seddio, who in addition to representing Sprei in numerous court cases is a powerful figure in the Brooklyn Democratic Party and an influential figure in deciding who becomes a state court judge in Brooklyn.

Seddio, the proposed amendment complaint alleges, is "dependent on Sprei, whose cases account for approximately 80 percent of Seddio's litigation work and whose payments accounted for up to 40 percent of Seddio's law firm revenues." It's unclear how much Sprei paid Seddio in total, but Seddio has represented Sprei in lawsuits at least as far back as early 2022.
