Albany's powerful "three people in a room" who hold the most sway in state government have now all endorsed Zohran Mamdani for mayor—and at least one of them also supports his plans to tax the rich to pay for universal child care and free MTA bus service.
"All of the above," State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie told reporters who had gathered in his Bronx district on Wednesday morning, before talking about how he and Mamdani, who is his colleague in the Assembly, had both worked to expand childcare, and on the free buses pilot. (Left unmentioned: How Heastie reportedly killed the expansion of that same bus pilot in 2024 because Mamdani lodged a protest vote against the overall budget.)
