New York City's Republican of the Moment Curtis Sliwa is DEFINITELY NOT demoralized by the absolute shellacking his party got on Tuesday.
"I view this complete tsunami, this blue tsunami, especially when it relates to the 62 counties of New York, as Liberation Day for Republicans who no longer feel that if they're not MAGA, they don't exist," Sliwa told Hell Gate. "You know, 'We're RINOs.' Well, guess what? I'm a proud RINO." (In case you've never seen Fox News, that's a Trumpworld pejorative that stands for "Republican In Name Only.")
The losses went far beyond GOP candidate Bruce Blakeman's double-digit defeat by Governor Kathy Hochul. Republicans lost at least six state Senate seats, at least seven Assembly seats, a major congressional seat in the Hudson Valley, all three statewide races by double-digit margins, and they barely hung onto a seat in the deep red North Country with a pretty embarrassing candidate.
Still, Sliwa's feeling…optimistic.
"This is a perfect opportunity for Republicans to organize and mobilize. The people united will never be defeated," he said. "That's a phrase that is very left-wing, very progressive. But this is what Republicans, if they want to save their party, must begin to do: Stop complaining, stop moaning and groaning. Your whole campaign was to basically call Zohran [Mamdani], you know, attaching him to Hochul, a communist, a socialist, a jihadist, and an Islamist. I don't even think they understand what a communist is. I don't think they understand what an Islamist is. But then again, they just attached it all together, and when all was said and done, Zohran helped Hochul, and Trump helped destroy Team Blakeman and other Republicans who were running under that MAGA mantra."
