A super PAC supporting Andrew Cuomo (remember that guy?) shattered spending records in its billionaire-funded effort to stop a democratic socialist from getting close to running New York City. Welp!
But make no mistake: The war to stop a Zohran Mamdani mayoralty is well underway. Kathy Wylde, the outgoing head of the business group Partnership for New York City, summed up the mood of her members to Politico: "Terror. Fear. Panic." But who will be their fighter?
Our current Mayor Eric Adams, who as we wrote yesterday is delighted that the general has now become the race that he feels most comfortable running and who is formally launching his reelection campaign today at noon on the steps of City Hall, sure thinks he's their man. The New York Post reported yesterday that Cuomo is not likely to run as an independent in the general, a claim that Cuomo's spokesperson Rich Azzopardi denied, describing the Post story as a "pressure campaign" that is "not rooted in reality."
