On Wednesday, the City Council began its hugely consequential Trump-era budgeting process, and a federal judge heard arguments in the City's lawsuit over the $80 million that was stolen from us by the Trump administration. But Mayor Eric Adams was in Washington, D.C., summoned before the House Oversight Committee, along with his counterparts in Boston, Denver, and Chicago, to defend their cities' "sanctuary" policies regarding federal immigration enforcement.
While he was essentially forced to appear by Republicans eager to dunk on big city Democratic mayors, on Monday night, Adams announced that he'd inexplicably be in the nation's capitol beginning Tuesday, a full day before the hearing. Whatever he was doing (perhaps meeting with his new BFF, Trump's "border czar" Tom Homan?) apparently merited the attention of three communications staffers, his chief counsel (who maybe should have been back in New York in federal court instead?), another City lawyer, the deputy mayor of governmental affairs, and an official photographer.
What he definitely wasn't doing on Tuesday was preparing for Wednesday's grueling hearing, which featured Republicans routinely citing inaccurate statistics, praising Donald Trump, and lambasting the mayors for their cities' policies.
