The first cross-endorsement of the 2025 Democratic mayoral primary is a doozy: Jessica Ramos is throwing her support behind Andrew Cuomo.
In an interview with the New York Times published this morning, Ramos said the mayoral race was about "governing, not posturing," and that she was backing Cuomo because "he’s the one best positioned right now to protect this city."
Ramos is a state senator from Queens who won her seat in 2018 on a wave of anger towards Cuomo and the Republicans he empowered. She called for Cuomo to resign in 2021 in the wake of the numerous sexual assault allegations against him. And she has repeatedly hammered Cuomo on the campaign trail, calling him a "remorseless bully who sexually harassed all those women, covered up the deaths of all those grandparents, and didn’t sell all those books." Just a few weeks ago, Ramos said Cuomo's "mental acuity is in decline," which prompted Cuomo's campaign to suggest that she was intoxicated.
