'Indian-ish' Sandwiches Are the Stars at Fonty's Deli and Dukaan

This super cute West Village spot is already a hit, and rightly so.

"We are obsessed with sandwiches," said Varsha Harlalka, one of three co-founders of the charming new Fonty's Deli and Dukaan on Christopher Street, along with her husband Arjun Gupta and their friend Viraj Borkar.

She said her husband Arjun grew up in Tampa, Florida, "eating tons of sandwiches," while she and Viraj grew up in Assam, India, also eating a lot of sandwiches, but very different kinds.

"So we kind of blended the sandwiches we grew up eating in India, and the sandwiches we've been eating in New York, and just...made a sandwich shop."
