Behold the Frigid Beauty of New York City's Ice Age

New York's waterways command your attention with dreamy colors and beguiling textures that make you want to Super Mario your way from Manhattan to Brooklyn.

While every intersection in town is either an impassible mountain of ice trash, a castle of dog piss with turd turrets, or both, New York City's waterways during this record cold spell have become an enchanting feast for the eyes.

No longer relegated to a supporting role for the city's built environment, the rivers, bays, channels, and creeks command your attention with dreamy colors and beguiling textures that make you want to Super Mario-hop your way from Manhattan to Brooklyn (New Yorkers must be reminded to not try this).

Hell Gate sent photographer John Taggart out to document the floes, and the result is a lovely portfolio that confirms that gut feeling many of us have: We're going to be talking about this ice for a long, long time. Hell, we might even miss it.
