The Reign of Christo, the Tompkins Square Park Hawk, Has Apparently Come to an End

And he's already been replaced by a younger hawk.

Last Wednesday, I took a stroll through Tompkins Square Park, hoping to catch a glimpse of Christo and Amelia, the famous red-tailed hawk couple. Christo has been in the park since 2013, and Amelia has been his mate since 2018. I know this couple. I have watched their bumbling and cuddly chicks learn to fly and hunt the park's ample rat population, before departing to start their own families.

March is when red-tailed hawks lay their eggs, and I wanted to see if Christo and Amelia were ready. Then I spotted the pair as they appeared to have settled on a nest way high up in a tree in the southwest corner of the park, a seemingly ideal place to raise their young.

But—wait a minute—was this Amelia and Christo or…Amelia and someone else?????
