Adrienne Adams's Mayoral Campaign Is Coming Into Focus

"I want no power, but I want to empower you," City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams told the crowd at the Haitian Day Parade on Saturday.

Andrew Cuomo spent 11 years overseeing the state government. But for City Council Speaker and mayoral hopeful Adrienne Adams, that experience means little when it comes to the nitty gritty of managing a city of 8.5 million people.

"I'm the only candidate in the race that has successfully negotiated three budgets, and I'm running for mayor as I'm successfully negotiating a fourth as well, so that distinguishes me in this race," Adams told Hell Gate in a brief interview on Saturday. "It's a very powerful asset for me and it's fortifying to be able to move that experience and talent from one side of City Hall over to the other side."

Adams, who announced her candidacy in early March, shortly after Cuomo's own entry into the race, represents an attempt to stop New York City from ping-ponging from one scandal-scarred leader to another, and bring some semblance of continuity and responsibility to City government.
