The Adams administration has officially turned the City-owned site of the Elizabeth Street Garden into parkland, making it much more difficult for the incoming mayoral administration to carry out stalled plans to build affordable housing for seniors on the land.
The transfer of the land to the City's Parks Department was done earlier this month at the prodding of Mayor Eric Adams's First Deputy Mayor Randy Mastro, according to two sources in the administration with knowledge of the move, who asked for anonymity for fear of reprisal. Gothamist also reported on the parkland designation earlier today.
