Mayor Eric Adams sold New York City out to the Trump administration in exchange for his freedom—and on Wednesday, Trump began to collect: Specifically, he "clawed back" $80 million in FEMA funds already sent last week to New York City for housing migrants.
The news about the $80 million "clawback," which is more accurately described as a theft, came just one day after the mayor declared that the DOJ order to dismiss the charges against him meant he could finally get back to business, doing everything he can to improve the lives of average New Yorkers.
The money was somehow taken from one of New York City's municipal bank accounts, reportedly on the order of Elon Musk and his new Department of Government Efficiency. Kristi Noem, dog killer extraordinaire and now secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, referred to the funds as money "that FEMA deep state activists unilaterally gave to NYC migrant hotels," and President Trump concurred in a statement to the Post, calling the federal aid for housing migrants "a massive fraud that's taking place."
According to Comptroller Brad Lander, Adams administration officials weren't even the ones who noticed the City was now suddenly missing $80 million. "This morning, my financial team shockingly uncovered that President Trump and his crony Elon Musk illegally executed a revocation of $80 million in congressionally appropriated FEMA funding from New York City's bank accounts late yesterday afternoon," Lander told reporters on Wednesday at a press conference announcing the heist. "This highway robbery of our funds directly out of our bank account is a betrayal of everyone who calls New York City home."
