For the second weekend in a row, the events at Brooklyn Mirage have been canceled.
The 6,000-plus capacity venue in East Williamsburg was supposed to open on May 2, but that night, as Hell Gate reported, the space still resembled an open construction site.
Promoters then said that Brooklyn Mirage would open on May 9 with DJ Loud Luxury headlining a show, followed by DJ Cloonee hosting an all day/night party on Saturday. But on Wednesday, Brooklyn Mirage announced on Instagram that those concerts are not happening.
Avant Gardner, the company that operates Brooklyn Mirage, did not give a reason for postponing this weekend's shows in the Instagram post, leaving ticketholders (like me!) in limbo about what in retrospect seems obvious: The venue is not ready. The company has not responded to our requests for comment. Nor has the Department of Buildings, which has still not approved three necessary permits—one for "bracing," another for concrete stabilizers, and another for "structural work."
One person who was able to shed some light on what is happening: Brooklyn City Councilmember Jennifer Gutiérrez, whose district includes Brooklyn Mirage, and who took a tour of the space earlier this week.
