State Sen. Luis Sepúlveda Says He Won't Step Down From Powerful Judiciary Committee: 'I've Been Vilified'

A NYC judge says a powerful state senator complained about him. The senator won't say if he did or didn't. Now good governance advocates are calling for his resignation from the judiciary committee.

New York State Senator Luis Sepúlveda told Hell Gate he will not resign from his role as chair of the powerful state Senate Judiciary Committee, despite rising calls for him to step down amid allegations that he misused his influence to complain to court administration officials about a sitting housing court judge who ruled against him.

"I will not resign," he said in the hallway of the New York City Civil Court Tuesday morning. "There is no reason to. I have not committed any ethical violation, and I'm very, very content with what I do as the chair of this committee."
