The 'Real Housewives of New York City' Reboot Is Over. It's Actually Over

By all appearances, this sad chapter in reality TV history is drawing to a close.

The rumors appear to be true: The reboot of "The Real Housewives of New York City" won't be returning to Bravo this year, and the franchise is on an indefinite pause while the network figures out what to do next, per a Page Six report. According to an "insider," RHONY might still have a future, just not with its current cast.

Oh my God? Ha ha ha! HAHAHAHAHA! HOLY FUCK!!!!!!!! IT'S OVER! THE REBOOT IS OVER!

I want to say I knew this day would come, but I've been pretty busy lately, so I haven't been giving the RHONY reboot much thought. I expected it to return for a third season sometime this summer, even though the last two seasons were almost universally regarded as a slog (which hasn't stopped Bravo from renewing "Potomac" or "Beverly Hills," so…). The show's 15th season came to a disturbing, borderline unwatchable conclusion in January with some unsavory "she said, she said" allegations between some of the core cast members. By the time the reunion wrapped up, I felt confident that at least some of the main women wouldn't return for a third season—but I didn't think Bravo would have the balls to pull the plug entirely. Kudos, I guess!

Ultimately, the decision makes sense. As I've been saying for the past two years, the reboot sucked to watch, and it failed on a critical and commercial level. It didn't pull in viewership; it didn't create iconic moments or introduce the masses to any likeable new reality TV figures; and its portrayal of a group of successful, diverse, and uniformly glamorous female friends in New York City rang as false and contrived as the reboot's portrayal of the city itself.
