Roaches in Baby Bottles, Dead Mice in Sheets, an Eviction Case: Life Raising a Baby in a Pinnacle Apartment

The Union of Pinnacle Tenants says it wants the City's help in getting Pinnacle eviction cases thrown out, as the slumlord sells 93 of its buildings in April.

A young couple with a 10-month-old child are facing eviction from their dilapidated Crown Heights apartment owned by Pinnacle Group—the corporate slumlord that Mayor Zohran Mamdani promised to hold accountable on his very first day in office. 

Yasmin Almokhamad and José Zelaya stopped paying their rent in February 2025 after they say requests to fix leaks and address roaches, mice, and lead contamination in their home were ignored for over a year. In April, two months after they began withholding rent, Pinnacle moved to evict the couple, just as their baby Lulu was born.
