The eclectic bill of the first show Alt Citizen editor-in-chief Nasa Hadizadeh ever booked included the chiptune pop band Anamanaguchi, along with Awkwafina, back when she was a rapper (Remember, "Bitches be in Bushwick, they all live in Bushwick"? Clock them, queen, so true…) and another rapper, Maxo, at Brooklyn Night Bazaar, a now defunct flea market-slash-venue in Williamsburg that was replaced with a BMW dealership.
"It was my first show, and when I arrived at the venue, I had no idea what I was doing," Hadizadeh recalled. "There were all these kids lined up. And I was like, 'are these people here for me?' I was so confused." Someone who worked at the venue told her it was the best show they'd ever had, and asked if she'd want to book another one. "I was like, 'hell yeah!' That's kind of how I got hooked on booking bands."
