Mayor Eric Adams told New Yorkers that we should look past the fact that President Donald Trump just saved him from serious criminal charges.
"I thank the Justice Department for its honesty," Adams said on Tuesday, in a five-minute speech from an empty room at City Hall, one day after Trump's Department of Justice ordered federal prosecutors to drop the case against him—with the caveat that they can reopen it later, keeping the cloud of indictment hanging over the mayor's head indefinitely. "Now we can put this cruel episode behind us and focus entirely on the future of our city."
