If you're already registered to vote in New York City and want to cast your ballot in the consequential ranked choice Democratic mayoral primary in June, you might want to check if you're officially a Democrat ASAP—the deadline to change your party registration to vote in the primary is coming up at the end of this week.
New York City has closed primaries, meaning if you want to vote in the Democratic primary—which will very likely determine who becomes the next mayor in the general election in November in our heavily blue city—you have to be a registered Democrat.
So if you're an unaffiliated voter or registered with the Working Families Party (or even a Republican) and want to have a say in the Democratic primary, take action now: Your deadline to swap your registration for the Democratic Party is Thursday if you want to do it online (you can do it here) or Friday if you want to hand off your form in person to your county Board of Elections office.
