New York City's hottest merch drop saw hundreds of people waiting on line in the searing morning sun Friday morning, just for the chance to cop limited-edition attire from one of NYC's most popular brands—who also happens to be the mayor.
Later Thursday night, Zohran Mamdani announced on Instagram that the City would start selling a limited number of $50 soccer jerseys in honor of the World Cup. Almost immediately—as early as 1 a.m.—people began lining up outside the CityStore, which is just a few blocks from City Hall.
"I don't usually do these things, this is probably just the third [hyped merch drop] I've ever done," Brighid Deangilis, who got on line at around 7:30 a.m., told Hell Gate late on Friday morning. "I've never owned a jersey and if I am going to get one, it felt important that it was a New York City one, and they're [made] by a small business, so I wanted to be a part of it."
