Much like Odysseus, Hell Gate went on a journey on Tuesday afternoon—from our office on the Bowery to the 34th Street AMC, which has an IMAX theater, but not the IMAX theater everyone actually wants to go to.
Still, we found the screen perfectly large enough to take in Christopher Nolan's newest film, which we found not quite worthy of even that insanely large theater.
The purpose of the trip was twofold: We found it important that, as a worker-owned cooperative, we take in a cautionary tale of top-down management, and what happens when a bunch of middle managers are allowed to run amok, taking out their own frustrations with the CEO on the working stiffs beneath them. Literal petty tyrants all!
Anyways, unlike Poseidon's wrath, we were clearly not blown away by this film.
The other reason we went was because matinee tickets were cheaper, and we're the boss here.
Here's our conversation about the film. It was conducted over Slack, and is therefore only minimally edited, to preserve the spirit of our precious opinions.
