As a trial balloon for a presidential pardon, Mayor Eric Adams's almost hour-long appearance on Tucker Carlson's show that aired on Tuesday night was perfect.
Carlson offered up false and incomplete summations of the federal charges against Adams, and the mayor claimed that he had been politically persecuted by Joe Biden. Adams said he had refused to be a "good Democrat" when it came to immigration policy, and so he was punished accordingly by the DOJ.
For those who have sat through hours of Adams's media appearances, this was essentially the mayor playing the hits, only instead of sneering at the reporters asking the questions, Hizzonor offered simpering chuckles of encouragement to the 21st century's loudest and most effective white nationalist.
"Listen, this is like a gallstone. It'll pass," Adams claimed he was told by members of the Biden administration about the influx of immigrants to New York City.
"Well, you pee it out then, why do you have to?" Carlson replied. "Well said," Adams giggled. (This is not how gallstones work.)
"Why don't you just send the cops?" Carlson suggested, as a catch-all solution to preventing disorder of any kind on the streets. "I'm with you, Tucker, but we're sued because of it," Adams said. "Kinda go full fascist a little," Carlson shot back, a gleam in his eye. "People would love you if you did that. You've thought about that," Carlson continued, eliciting more laughter from Adams.
