New York City is in the depths of a housing crisis, the president is stealing money from our bank account and his goons are abducting our residents, but at least finally, the City of New York is going to issue Bitcoin-based financial instruments. It's about to be a "BitBond" summer, whatever that means! Mayor Eric Adams made that announcement on Wednesday while he was in Las Vegas headlining his good friend Brock Pierce's DNA House at Bitcoin 2025 crypto conference, a week after holding an open-bar crypto summit at Gracie Mansion.
Wearing a T-shirt bearing the name of Bitcoin "creator" Satoshi Nakamoto over a dress shirt and tie, Adams re-asserted his status as "America's Bitcoin Mayor" (Miami Mayor Francis Suarez might like a word), while sharing a conference lineup stacked with names like Vice President JD Vance ("This is a movement. Soon 100 million Americans will own Bitcoin," the VP said), Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump (Eric: "We have a president who loves this industry and is behind this industry 100 percent"), and Vivek Ramaswamy.
Adams also found time while in Vegas yesterday to hold a lunchtime fundraiser for his mayoral campaign. Joining the mayor's entourage on the taxpayer-funded trip were Deputy Mayor for Intergovernmental Affairs Tiffany Raspberry and City Chief Technology Officer Matthew Fraser.
