Eldridge Street Store Is Slinging American Chinese Classics and Excellent Slushies

Chinatown has a sweet new late-night hang, open until 4 a.m.

Part blessedly affordable restaurant, part reliquary for a bunch of really cool neighborhood ephemera, part fun late-night destination, part astonishingly good summertime slushie spot, Chinatown's new Eldridge Street Store, which opened just a couple of weeks ago on, obviously, Eldridge Street, is a well-conceived, well-executed space that just kind of totally rules.

The team behind the operation politely declined my request for an official interview, but here are a few things I gleaned while wolfing down a really good, really satisfying meal before seeing "The Odyssey" Saturday night (which, by the way, also rules).
