State of the Race in 30 Seconds
Since we last hit your inbox in July, Zohran Mamdani has remained the commanding favorite in the mayor's race. Today, a new NYT/Siena poll confirmed it—Mamdani is way ahead of the rest of the field, holding a 22 percent lead over former governor Andrew Cuomo, who's only nine percentage points ahead of Republican Curtis Sliwa. Trailing behind them all is current New York City mayor Eric Adams, who simply refuses to take the hint and drop out of the race (yet).
The NYT/Siena poll has a glimmer of hope for Cuomo: it's a four-point race if both Adams and Sliwa drop out. But the fact that Sliwa is even within striking distance of Cuomo all but ensures he'll stick around (who would give up a shot at beating Andew Cuomo?) Also, even if Adams and Sliwa were to drop out, their names would almost certainly remain on the ballot, unless they moved out of the city, became a judge, or died. Eight weeks out from election day, it's looking like a RED NOVEMBER in New York City. Is Chuck Schumer finally coming around?
