This week, the Trump-supporting billionaire Bill Ackman dumped an additional $1 million into a super PAC created to defeat Zohran Mamdani's bid for mayor of New York City.
The PAC, Defend NYC, was started in July by Jason Meister, a former Trump campaign adviser who is perhaps best known for telling the New York Post that January 6 should be deemed a national holiday known as "Patriot's Day."
Ackman's million-dollar donation comes as polls show Mamdani with a commanding lead of 46 percent among likely voters, compared to Andrew Cuomo's 33 percent and Curtis Sliwa's 15 percent. It also comes almost four months after Mamdani took the Democratic primary in a landslide, which Ackman reacted to by posting a 1,490-word treatise to X, promising to bankroll anyone who dared to run against the "charming" Queens assemblymember.
