More than 150 Albanians rallied in New York City Saturday afternoon to demand the resignation and imprisonment of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama—a close political ally of our former mayor Eric Adams, who was recently and bizarrely declared a citizen of Albania by special presidential decree in a ceremony hosted by Rama himself.
The rally came on day 42 of a rapidly-intensifying global protest movement known as the Flamingo Revolution, partly sparked by a "special investor" deal the Albanian government made with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner to plant luxury developments on the picturesque island of Sazan and a protected nature area on Albania’s west coast. Flamingos have become the symbol of the protests due to Albanians' calls to protect the delicate local ecosystem—a habitat for migratory pink flamingos—close to where Kushner plans "to create the ideal resort that I’d want to be at with my family and with my friends."
Last week, Rama further ignited the protests when he announced he'd sunk $4.5 million in taxpayer dollars into a Kanye West concert in Albania, despite the rapper's tour being canceled in other European cities due to his antisemitic comments.
