On Sunday in the Bronx, the New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America followed up on its day of action in Albany last month with a "tax the rich" rally at Lehman College in the Bronx, featuring none other than Senator Bernie Sanders.
Not at the event? The very popular democratic socialist mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, who continues to sidestep direct confrontation with the governor over one of his signature policy proposals—raising taxes on New York City's millionaires and its corporations.
But at the raucous two-hour long rally, NYC-DSA's leadership and members didn't appear to be sweating Mamdani's absence, despite reports that some in the organization believe Mamdani is giving up valuable leverage over Hochul by, among other things, not appearing himself at these events.
