From Unspeakable to 'Phenomenal': Tompkins Square Park Finally Gets New Restrooms

The new restrooms were part of a $5.6 million renovation that also improved the north side of the park.

When we last checked up on the restrooms in Tompkins Square Park in 2022, they were easily some of the worst in New York City. Unspeakable objects bobbed in murky liquids, broken glass was scattered across smeared and chipped tiles, and the smell—opening the rusted, decrepit door to the men's bathroom was like prying loose the Ark of the Covenant.

Nearly two years of construction work and $5.6 million later, the Tompkins Square Park bathrooms have been reborn.
