On Saturday morning, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced "a new pilot program to majorly scale up the number of public restrooms in New York City."
"In a city that has everything, the one thing that is often impossible to find is a public bathroom," Mamdani told a group of reporters in West Harlem near the site of a new, soon-to-be installed modular restroom, adding that the lack of public facilities has continued to affect him, even after he has become the mayor of New York City.
"You look for the closest restaurant, you apologize, and ask, 'Is it possible if we could use your bathroom?'" Mamdani said.
