Pledge Allegiance to Hell Gate's 4th of July Playlist

Plus: 99 Ranch, an obstinate Andrew Cuomo, a handsy Hochul aide, and more links for your long weekend.

By the way—have you been listening to the Hell Gate Podcast? This week's episode will drop later today. For the latest on the mayor's race, you won't want to miss it. You can listen here, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Hell Gate is off on Friday. We'll be back in your inboxes on Monday, July 7.

We kept saying that June wasn't hot enough, until it was. Now it's summer, clothes are sticking to backs, and the world is going straight to hell. In case you missed it last week, we watched "Network" on the beach with our dear friends at the Rockaway Film Festival. The Fourth of July is tomorrow, we've got a long weekend, fascism is doing a no-diff speedrun through the country.

I'm not really “Mr. Joy-as-an-Act-of-Resistance” through all this chaos; I just like music. In a few weekends we'll be back out in the Rockaways, at the burger stand and venue Rippers for another event—a concert with the independent show-booking collective Shea Stadium. So, I thought it would be a good time to update our New New York Songs playlist, which consists of songs from New York City artists that are currently active in the city. Have a good summer.
