One of New York City's major hospital networks has stopped providing gender-affirming care to new trans patients under the age of 19, according to families of patients whose medical appointments were canceled.
One parent told Hell Gate that their child was scheduled for an appointment at an NYU Langone facility to receive puberty blockers—medicines that delay the physical changes brought on by puberty—only to have the appointment canceled. When they asked for an explanation, they were told that the hospital was no longer offering the treatment to new patients under 19. Another family told Hell Gate that a scheduled surgery was canceled this week, with the same reason given.
