After half a decade of organizing, nearly 1,000 workers at the Metropolitan Museum of Art told management that they want a chance to form a union.
Security staffers and projectionists at the 155-year-old institution already belong to two smaller unions. The Met Union would include curators, conservators, writers, editors, designers, front desk staffers, and other workers who play vital roles in the museum that hosts more than 5 million visitors every year. On Monday, the Met Union filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board to hold a union vote—a first crucial step to forming a union and beginning contract negotiations.
