On Tuesday night, after more than two million New Yorkers voted in the 2025 general mayoral election, Zohran Mamdani emerged victorious, and the world didn't end—for most of us. But for a handful of people who'd been prophesying doom, gloom, and "Sharia law" in New York City, Mamdani's win has sparked a lot of big feelings.
The freakout began a few days before the election, with a supposed bombshell "poll" from a right-leaning firm which found that "at least" 765,000 New Yorkers were planning to flee the city in the event of a Mamdani win. Except, the firm polled just 500 people, and only 45 said they would "definitely leave" if Mamdani won.
"Who knows if we can believe people when they say it, but the prospect of Mamdani is so scary to some that they are considering throwing in the Big Apple for new digs," one of the pollsters told the Daily Mail. Yes, who knows whether this poll is trash!
