Production Workers' Strike Means Curtains for Two Atlantic Theater Company Shows

"I love the work that we do, and I believe in it. But it wouldn't happen without us."

The fight between the Atlantic Theater Company and its unionized crew members is financial—and existential.

On Sunday, the Atlantic Theater production workers, a unit made up of 120 unionized freelance production workers, launched a strike after an unsuccessful contract bargaining session with management the same morning. The workers have been members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 1 for nearly a year.

In response to the work stoppage, Atlantic Theater Company "indefinitely" postponed two new plays, "I'm Assuming You Know David Greenspan" and "Grief Camp," after both shows had already opened for preview performances.
