Since I wrote recently about New York's affordable housing lottery, my perspective has shifted slightly on the prospect of winning a subsidized apartment. The truth is, I had given way too much of my, uh, mental real estate, to the idea of living in one of the Housing Connect listings. I'd never enter the real lottery myself, because, well, I think of it as a kind of pyramid scheme, a cruel-but-profitable delusion designed to make you imagine what it would be like to win the Mega Millions.
