Will Mayor Mamdani Once Again Close Forest Park to Cars?

“The mayor could make that decision today. It doesn’t cost anything."

Cars are once again zipping through Forest Park in Queens, after the park's Freedom Drive was reopened to automobile traffic last month for the first time in more than five years, thanks to a decision made by Eric Adams's administration at the end of last year.

Now, many in the neighborhood are pushing for Mayor Zohran Mamdani to reverse the decision and once again ban cars from the stretch, pointing to his vow to change course from Adams's policies on street safety. But his administration has, to date, remained largely silent on the issue.
