On Monday, the New York City Department of Investigation and federal prosecutors announced the indictment of three men, a current Department of Correction employee and two former DOC employees, on charges that they faked injuries in order to bilk the City for workers' compensation payouts.
According to the indictments, Todd Faustin, who currently works for the DOC, scammed the City out of $469,705 in benefits, while the former employees, Jovanny Concepcion and Steven Murphy, took home $232,427 and $294,037, respectively, in fraudulent benefits.
But those alleged scams are likely just the tip of the iceberg, according to a Department of Investigation report released the same day, which found a "pattern of claims by DOC employees" that raises "serious concerns" of widespread fraud.
