Congressman Dan Goldman must be a serious fan of longtime East Village blog EV Grieve.
Last week, Goldman's re-election campaign lifted an entire story that the blog published—without permission—and used it for a campaign mailer, a move that legal experts say plays "fast and loose" with federal copyright laws and exhibits poor judgement on the part of the candidate.
The story, which was written by reporter and photographer Stacie Joy, featured a fly-on-the-wall account of Goldman making an unannounced visit in February to inspect the federal immigration facilities at 26 Federal Plaza, where for the past year, New Yorkers have been ripped apart from their families during routine immigration court appearances.

It was a positive story showing Goldman on the ground, fighting on behalf of immigrants—something his current Democratic primary opponent, former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, has done regularly since President Trump took office. Goldman's willingness to fight the Trump administration (he now believes that the country must "abolish ICE") has become a central plank of his re-election campaign.
