Put This Unassuming, Decades-Old Thai Spot at the Top of Your Elmhurst List

The family-run Chao Thai recently updated their menu, and it's filled with bangers.

While bumbling around TikTok the other day I came upon this clip of my buddy Maxi, the wonton queen of NYC who's behind the excellent noodle shops Maxi 1, Maxi 2 (both in Flushing), and Maxi 3 (in Chinatown), feasting at what apparently is one of her favorite restaurants in Elmhurst: Chao Thai.

Like many of my favorite $20 Dinner spots, Chao Thai doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but if Maxi says it's good, I am definitely getting on that 7 train and checking it out. Besides, with the World Cup in full swing, there's no better time to roam around this part of town. I happened to catch one of Mexico's goals in that first game at the City-run Soccer Streets viewing party in Travers Park, and, as we all know from the Knicks' incredible championship run, collective joy is one hell of a drug.
